Psalms 126:1-2 When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”
The joy and celebration that must have taken place whenever God delivered Israel from those who enslaved them; the taste of freedom, after so many years in captivity. Yet, there were occasions when they quickly forgot the joy of their freedom, when they faced adversity. When God delivered them from slavery in Egypt, it did not take long for them to murmur against God and Moses. Oh how fickle man can be. I have to ask of us today, "Have we lost the joy of the freedom we have in Jesus?" Have we allowed life and it's circumstances to cause us to lose sight of the blessed freedom we enjoy in Christ Jesus? Have we forgotten that before Jesus, we were captive to sin and the fear of death? Have we forgotten that we were being held captive by Satan's lies? Have we allowed our laughter and our joy to be replaced by worry, stress, and depression? Have we allowed sin and the trials of life to rob us of the song we once had in our heart for the Lord? Today...right now...let us say, like King David, "Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit." (Psalms 51:2) Is there something we are holding on to today that we need to give over to the Lord, so that we can once again celebrate our wonderful gift of salvation? I pray that we will be reminded today that the Lord has done great things for us, and that we have all the reason in the world to enjoy laughter once again. In Christ, we have the ability to renew the songs of praise and thanks we once had in our hearts for the Lord God our Savior.
Today, God extends an invitation to you to accept His free gift of salvation (Rom 7:23). Will you accept it? Anyone who calls on Jesus, by faith, in repentance, confessing your sins, will receive eternal life. Do not put off calling on Him, and receive His free gift of salvation today (Rom 10:13).
