Psalms 119:89-90 Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You established the earth, and it abides.
Life can be so unstable. We never know from day to day what will enter and affect our lives. We might have a peaceful day, filled with sunshine and happiness; or we might have a day filled with stormy weather, both within and without. The things we put our trust in, in this world, are uncertain, and could perish at any moment. The things we hold on to so dearly can be lost, stolen, or taken right out of our hands. If all we have is what the world offers, then I can say with certainty that we are the most miserable of all of God's creation. The psalmist reminds us today that the only thing in this world that is certain is God and His Word. The Scriptures are true, eternally established, and unchanging. Why can we put such trust in God's Word? Well, because it is His Word, and He is true and unchanging. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). His Word is established upon His righteousness and holiness, which never changes. Therefore, it is sure, fixed, and immoveable. Man's teachings will change based on his desires and intentions, which are founded on a sinful nature. God's Word is truth, and eternally unchanged. It is settled in Heaven, where no one can reach it or change it. When we become weary, begin to waver, and faint, it is in Christ, and His unfailing Word, through the power of the Holy Spirit, that we find the strength to go one more second, one more minute, and one more day. Our God is faithful from generation to generation, and His Word can be completely trusted from generation to generation, as it transcends time. In such unstable and such changing times, let us hold on to the one thing that we have in Christ Jesus, the unfailing and eternally unchanged promises that are found in His Word.
Today, God extends an invitation to you to accept His free gift of salvation (Rom 7:23). Will you accept it? Anyone who calls on Jesus, by faith, in repentance, confessing your sins, will receive eternal life. Do not put off calling on Him, and receive His free gift of salvation today (Rom 10:13).
