Deuteronomy 29:1-5 Now Moses called all Israel and said to them: "You have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land— the great trials which your eyes have seen, the signs, and those great wonders. Yet the Lord has not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear, to this very day. And I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandals have not worn out on your feet."
If God is our God, what have we to worry about? Will God not provide for His people? The Lord performed spectacular miracles right before Israel's eyes; yet, time and time again they responded with unbelief and complaining. It is absolutely incredible that for forty years the Israelites wandered in the wilderness, and yet their clothing and sandals were not even worn out. God provided for His people in accordance to their needs. The problem with God's people today is, and was in those days, that we are often ungrateful for what God provides for us. We want the latest and greatest, and waste our money on things we do not need, and often buy, but never use. We frown and complain when we cannot get what we want, and enslave ourselves to debt in order to obtain what we lust after; rather than be satisfied with what God promises to provide for us. We need to learn how to be content with such things as we have (Hebrews 13:5). Just like the Lord provided for the Israelites, He made the following promise to us in Matthew 6:31-32, "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For all these things the Gentiles seek. For your Heavenly Father knows that you need all these things." In verse 33, God promises that He will add them unto us. However, there is one very important condition He added to His promise in that verse. "But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness..." Here is where many of us go sideways. If we would only focus our attention on seeking God, serving Him, and living a life that glorifies Him, we could learn how to be satisfied with what He provides, and realize that He is already being faithful to provide exactly what we need. Stop looking at the world and what it says we should have or deserve, and remember that God is already providing for us more than we deserve. Hebrews 13:5 goes on to tell us that He will never leave us, nor forsake us. So the bottom line is that we need not be covetous, and be content with having Jesus, even if He is all we have. After all, if we have the Lord, we truly have all we need.
Today, God extends an invitation to you to accept His free gift of salvation (Rom 6:23). Will you accept it? Anyone who calls on Jesus, by faith, in repentance, confessing your sins, will receive eternal life. Do not put off calling on Him, and receive Him and His free gift of salvation today (Rom 10:13).
