Psalms 82:1-2 God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods. How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked? Selah
As I read this Psalm, I could not help but think of Romans 13. In that chapter we are told to be subject to the governing authorities. In other words, we are to submit to governmental authority. Whether those in positions of power want to admit it or not, their authority to govern comes from God. This means that they are also accountable to God. We obviously are to obey those in authority over us, unless their orders put us in a position to violate God's Word. Nonetheless, those in authority have a responsibility, before God, to carry out their duties justly. They are to be fair, and equitable, and if we are under that type of governing authority, we are then accountable for how we respond to such authority. As a matter of fact, God gives them permission to execute judgment, and punish those that are doing evil. The problem with human authority, especially today, is that the majority of those in positions of power are crooked and corrupt. I say, "Be of good cheer!" Why do I say that? Well, I say it because today's verses are a reminder that not one person who holds a public office of authority will escape God's judgment. He sees all that they are doing, and they will one day stand before the King of kings and Lord of lords to give account for every single decision they make. So let us not fret. Instead, let us focus on serving the Lord, being obedient to His commands, and leave those who are ruling wickedly in God's hands. In the end, God will judge the nations and we will ultimately rule and reign with Him when He returns to establish His Kingdom.
Today, God extends an invitation to you to accept His free gift of salvation (Rom 6:23). Will you accept it? Anyone who calls on Jesus, by faith, in repentance, confessing your sins, will receive eternal life. Do not put off calling on Him, and receive Him and His free gift of salvation today (Rom 10:13).
