World's Greatest Goalkeeper

Psalms 121:1-2 I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord , Who made heaven and earth.

I am not an avid sports fan. I do occasionally watch soccer, and do enjoy a bit of hockey. In both games, one of the major positions is that of the goalkeeper, or goalie. He/she is tasked with protecting the net, not allowing the ball or puck to get by them, so that the opposing team cannot score a goal. When I watch the soccer ball or puck go screaming toward the goalkeeper, I can picture the devil's attacks and fiery darts being hurled at us. Far too often, I feel like the net that the goalkeeper is trying to protect; life hurling all kinds of challenges, trials, and tribulations. Every once in a while one manages to hit the net and score; or so it seems. The truth of the matter is that our Goalkeeper never lets anything get by Him. When the devils and life are launching their shots at us, our Lord is the One who stands between us and the opposing team (Satan's army). Not one of devils' attempts to score a goal in our life get by our God without Him allowing it. Our Goalkeeper has a perfect record, and when He allows one to pass on into our life, contrary to the rules in our sports on how you score a point, every shot that He allows to get by, ends up being a point for us, because He promised that He'll work all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). The bottom line is that our daily help comes from a God whom no one can outsmart or overcome. He is God of heaven and earth. When we feel defeated and exhausted, He never gets tired, and He never sleeps. Most importantly, He is the Preserver of our souls, in Christ Jesus. So, no matter how much it may seem like the opposing team is winning, we are the ones on the winning team, because we have the world's greatest Goalkeeper who will not allow the devils to score any significant points.

Today, God extends an invitation to you to accept His free gift of salvation (Rom 6:23). Will you accept it? Anyone who calls on Jesus, by faith, in repentance, confessing your sins, will receive eternal life. Do not put off calling on Him, and receive Him and His free gift of salvation today (Rom 10:13).
