The Greatest Love

Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

"How can you really believe that God loves you, when you can't even go one day without doing something wrong? How would a God who claims to be so holy and just overlook all those sins you committed, and even still dabble in?" The father of lies would like us to believe that we have a God who holds a grudge, is a tyrant, and whose love is conditional. If he can convince us of this, then he can have us in a state of constant guilt that will lead to discouragement and a feeling that we could never be good enough to serve God. Well, the truth is that in and of ourselves, we are not good enough. Praise be to God that Jesus is more than enough, and if we are in Him, then we too are enough; not because of our righteousness, but because of Jesus' righteousness. The bottom line is that God's love for us is unconditional. Romans 5:8 tells us that Jesus showed His love for us by dying for us while we were yet His enemies. Now that we have called upon Him and have become children of God, how much more are we secure in His love?! God's love is not fair weathered. His love for us is based on His choice to love us, and is grounded and firmly set in place, in our lives, by the sacrifice made on Calvary, and the sealing of the Holy Spirit, when we call upon Him by faith. There is nothing we, or anyone else, can do to change that...nothing!! Yes, God is just and holy, and yes, sin must and will be punished. That is why Jesus, who knew no sin, was made sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). God poured out on Jesus the wrath that was due us. Those who reject God's love will give an answer for, and suffer the penalty for, their sins; eternal condemnation. So, the next time the father of lies accuses our faithful God, in our ears, of not loving us, counter that lie with the truth that, "The greatest act of love was performed, that clearly demonstrated the most wonderful and deepest love anyone could ever have for us when Jesus gave His life and love for a world that neither sought it nor deserved it."

Today, God extends an invitation to you to accept His free gift of salvation (Rom 6:23). Will you accept it? Anyone who calls on Jesus, by faith, in repentance, confessing your sins, will receive eternal life. Do not put off calling on Him, and receive Him and His free gift of salvation today (Rom 10:13).
