Psalm 113:1-3 Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, Praise the name of the Lord! Blessed be the name of the Lord From this time forth and forevermore! From the rising of the sun to its going down The Lord’s name is to be praised.
As you read this, I want to ask you a question, "When was the last time you praised God?" My follow-up question is this, "Why did you praise Him?" I ask it because sometimes we use thanksgiving and praise interchangeably, when in reality there is a difference. When we praise God, we praise Him for who He is. That means that we praise His Name simply because He is God and because He is who He tells us He is in His Word. When we praise Him, we offer up praise, not because He has done something for us or blessed us in some way. No, praise is praise simply because the Lord is Lord. When we give thanks, we give it for something He has done, or even allowed. That means that the circumstances may not even be favorable or pleasureable, but they are still circumstances that help us to grow in our faith and help us to be more like Jesus; and for that we can give thanks. Afterall, we are told to give thanks in all things. So I ask, "When was the last time any of us gave God praise simply because He is God, Lord, and King?" For those of us who claim to know and love Jesus, there should not be any prerequisite to our offering up praise to the only One who deserves it from the rising of the sun to its setting.
Today, God extends an invitation to you to accept His free gift of salvation (Romans 6:23). Will you accept it? Anyone who calls on Jesus, by faith, in repentance, confessing your sins, will receive eternal life. Do not put off calling on Him, and receive His free gift of salvation today (Romans 10:13).
