Nothing Is Impossible

Verse of the day: Joshua 6:1-2 Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. 2 And the LORD said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor.
I cannot even begin to imagine what I would have been thinking being in Joshua’s sandals. Here we are facing the Walls of Jericho, fully fortified because they knew we were coming, and no way to penetrate them, get over them, or get through them. What kind of plan could we possibly come up with to give us victory in this impossible attempt to conquer the city? The only thing that Joshua and the Israelites were facing was defeat. However, Joshua had something the king and the mighty men of valor of that city did not have…God. Over and over again, Joshua has seen God do the miraculous. The parting of both the Red Sea and the Jordan River were certainly extraordinary and supernatural (Exodus 14, Joshua 3). Now, God is instructing Joshua to do something that makes absolutely no sense, humanly speaking. Nonetheless, God has proven Himself and His power so often, that we see Joshua carry out God’s instructions without hesitation; march around the city once a day for six days, then seven times on the seventh day, blow the trumpet, shout, and the walls came tumbling down. How many of us would think this was a great battle plan? If we are honest, none of us would. In any situation or circumstance we must remember that when God is part of the equation, anything is possible because nothing is impossible for God. The greatest impossibility that exists today is our ability to enter Heaven. There is nothing we can do or no amount of riches that can buy our way. In Matthew 19:23-26 Jesus had this conversation with His disciples, “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.’ 25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, ‘Who then can be saved?’ 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” Salvation is impossible with man, but made possible by God through Christ Jesus. Our ability to have true contentment is impossible of our own accord, because we allow too many external factors dictate whether or not we have joy. Yet, the Apostle Paul said that he learned how to be content in whatever state he was in, whether to abound or suffer need because he knew that he could do all things through Christ who strengthened him (Philippians 4:11-13). In Job 42:2, Job said to God, “I know that You can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.” How often do we face obstacles in life that challenge our faith in great ways? Yet, God promised that no matter what the circumstance, no matter how difficult or how tragic in our eyes, He will work them out for our good; the ultimate good being that we come out more like Christ in our attitude toward life, others, and God (Romans 8:28-29). Regardless of how many Jericho Walls we encounter in our walk with Him, we must remind ourselves that no wall can stand against our God, and if we have God on our side, we must ask, “Who can stand against us?” (Romans 8:31) When we find ourselves frozen with fear or worried because we do not know how we will get through a situation, we must answer the question the Lord asked Jeremiah in relation to Israel returning to their land in Jeremiah 32:27, “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?” In those moments when what God asks of us makes no sense whatsoever, we must remember Solomon’s advice in Proverbs 3:5-7, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil.” What God commanded Joshua to do made no sense from a human perspective, but it was the perfect plan to show them that nothing, absolutely nothing, is impossible when we follow God’s plan.
Today, God extends an invitation to you to accept His gift of salvation (Rom 6:23). Will you accept it? Anyone who calls on Jesus, by faith, in repentance, confessing your sins, will receive eternal life. Do not put off calling on Him, and receive Him and His gift of salvation today (Rom 10:13).
