Verse of the day: Jeremiah 32:17,
27 ‘Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your
great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. “Behold,
I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?
Is there anything that God cannot do? Is there
anything that is above our God or beyond His reach? Is there any circumstance
or situation that if too difficult for Him to bring us through and help us
overcome? The answer to these questions, without a shadow of a doubt is, “NO!”
It is amazing that Jeremiah is able to say these things at this time in Israel’s
history. They are going to be taken into captivity by the Babylonians, and
Jeremiah is sitting in prison for prophesying. In other words, he is imprisoned
for doing exactly what God wanted him to do. How often does it seem like things
get messed up in our lives the more we try to live for God and do the right
thing? Yet, just like Jeremiah, our response should be to pray, trust God, and
continue serving Him (1 Cor 15:58). Jeremiah had purchased a piece of land,
that for all intents and purposes was going to be useless to him personally,
but he did it in response to God’s direction. The deed was turned over to be
reserved for the time when Israel would possess the land once again. Although
Israel’s outlook was not good, Jeremiah faithfully did what God called him to
do because He knew that God could do the impossible, both in his life and in
the lives of His people. This is the same God we serve today. This is the same
God who has done what was not possible with man, by providing a way to eternal
life for everyone that will call upon the Lord Jesus by faith (Lk 18:27). Why
then do we fret when things seem to go sideways in our lives? Especially, when
we are living for the Lord? How quickly we forget that our God and Creator is so
powerful that nothing is impossible for Him. He spoke and creation was brought
about (Gen 1-2). There is no creature that is more powerful, whether man or
angelic being. Yet, we often live as if God cannot turn around a situation that
seems impossible to change. Yes, for us, no matter how much we try or how much
we labor, it is impossible to change that which is out of our hands, and not
ours to change. Yet, with God there is nothing that can happen or change unless
it is part of His will and plan for our lives. Why do we needlessly worry about
those things that belong to God? The outlook for Jeremiah and Israel was
hopeless, but Jeremiah knew God and knew that the greatest hope he had was in
the fact that God is faithful and true to His Word. He knew that Israel would
suffer for their unfaithfulness to God, but God’s promise was the He would
someday restore His people. How often have we even suffered for having a
rebellious moment? Yet, in our hearts we need to know and remember that God is
faithful, even when we are not. As long as we have breath in our lungs, God
gives us the opportunity to turn back to Him so that He can continue to work
out His plan for our lives, for our good and His glory. When we find ourselves
in despair because of circumstances and troubling situations (seemingly
impossible situations), let us not forget that our Almighty God is still in
control, and there is NOTHING that is too hard for Him.
