Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
What was the reason and purpose for Jesus coming? It was to seek and save those of us who were lost. His mission was to come and lay down His life in order to pay a price that none of us could pay on our own. There was nothing we could do or give to pay for our sins and be at peace with God. However, once Jesus came and fulfilled all that His Father sent Him here to accomplish, He passed the baton to us and His disciples. In Mark He tells us to preach the Gospel to every creature. In today's verses, known to us as the Great Commission, He clearly commands us to go out and make disciples, which involves first sharing the Good News that Jesus came, died to pay for our sins, and made salvation available to all who repent and call on His Name; and let us not forget that one day soon (at any moment) He is coming back to get us. My question to each of us who knows Him as Savior and Lord is this, "Are we living as if the Great Commission is the great suggestion?" I pray that's not the case; but if it is, then it's far past the time that we live out Jesus' command, and start telling others before it's too late.
Today, God extends an invitation to you to accept His free gift of salvation (Romans 6:23). Will you accept it? Anyone who calls on Jesus, by faith, in repentance, confessing your sins, will receive eternal life. Do not put off calling on Him, and receive His free gift of salvation today (Romans 10:13).
