John 6:28-30 Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” Therefore they said to Him, “What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do?
Sadly, the lack of faith that Jesus dealt with so long ago is still the lack of faith that God often sees today. The great tragedy is that this lack of faith is seen more and more amongst those of us who claim to be born again believers. We proclaim that Jesus is our Savior and we claim that He can do great things; yet, we live life as if the God we serve is unable to overcome the smallest of obstacles and challenges in our lives. We fail to step out and allow God to do great things in us and through us. Instead, we continue to focus on the propaganda, the doom and gloom, and the nonsense that the world is spewing out, and rather than step out and show the world that our God is bigger than all this and has a plan, we shrink back and buy into the fear. Well, I ask all of us today, "Do we believe who Jesus says He is in our lives?" "Are we going out and living a life of service that screams, 'I can't do this on my own, but I have faith in the God who can do this in and through me?'" If we want to work the works of God, then we must believe that God is who God says He is, and is able to do what He says He can do. The people wanted to see a miracle, even though Jesus had already done many. Yet they needed to see more to believe; Jesus knew they would not believe. Are we also so faithless that we have to see it to believe it? Well then, let us try to see what cannot be seen through the eyes of faith we have been given in Christ Jesus, and start living a life that says, "I don't need to see it with my physical eyes to believe it, because I can see it with my eyes of faith." "Besides, I know my God can do all things and He is faithful!"
Today, God extends an invitation to you to accept His free gift of salvation (Romans 6:23). Will you accept it? Anyone who calls on Jesus, by faith, in repentance, confessing your sins, will receive eternal life. Do not put off calling on Him, and receive His free gift of salvation today (Romans 10:13).
